Engaging Kids in the Magic and Power of Storytelling

The Durango Independent Film Festival has been screening age-appropriate films to students K-12 since our inception in 2005.

In 2024, the DIFF’s REEL Learning School Program (part of the Durango Independent Film Festival) reached over 1900 students in La Plata County. A total of 17 short films were selected for the programs by the RLSP Committee, which consisted of retired and current teachers and students.

With your support, we hope to do the same and more in 2025! We would also like to offer more virtual screenings so we can reach more students; your donation will help make this happen!

What Teachers are Saying about the REEL Learning Program:

“Importantly, the [REEL Learning] program addresses economic barriers that some students may face in attending the film festival independently. Many students may not afford the associated expenses, making the REEL Learning School Program a vital means of ensuring equitable access for all students to experience and appreciate what Durango has to offer.

“In conclusion, we sincerely appreciate the REEL Learning School Program and its positive impact on our students' educational experience. We eagerly anticipate its continuation and look forward to the enriching experiences it brings to our school community each year.
