You Can Call Us Durango Film
The community of Durango has presented a film festival since 2001, when the Durango Film Festival held its first event. When the Durango Film Festival became inactive in 2005, staff and volunteers from that festival wanted to continue the presence of a community film festival. Within a few months they regrouped to organize The Durango Independent Film Festival (DIFF), and registered with the State of Colorado as a new nonprofit corporation on August 24, 2005.
DIFF launched its inaugural film festival March 1-5, 2006. Our vision for our nonprofit expanded during our post-festival retreat, and the Board of Directors amended the name of the organization to “Durango Film Institute dba The Durango Independent Film Festival” to more fully reflect our updated mission statement and our commitment to educate through the art of film. We are proud of our Schools Program taking educational films to students in Durango and Ignacio.
In 2012 the organization name was shortened to “Durango Film”, to encompass additional year-round activities and events. However, we continue to present the Durango Independent Film Festival every year the first full weekend of March.
Our main event will continue to be our annual Film Festival. We continue to grow and are expanding the scope of events throughout the year by presenting the global Manhattan Short Film Festival each Fall, Dinner & Movie events, as well as other events and film showings. We seek opportunities to collaborate with other non-profit organizations and business partners, such as a collaboration in 2013 with SKA Brewing Company and The Palace Restaurant for Beer Dinner & A Movie.
