WHAT is a film festival? The Durango Independent Film Festival is a five day festival the first full weekend of March. Films are shown at various times throughout the day, at 3 different theaters in town (within walking distance of each other) on 4 different screens. You can choose to see whatever films you’d like, and as many or as few as you’d like. There are also VIP parties for First Tier pass holders and special programs (such as panels and Coffee Talk with Filmmakers) that are free and open to the public. You don’t need a pass to attend our special programs. We start the festival off with Free Movie Night – it’s free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis, and we encourage you to bring your friends and family to this free event.
WHAT is the virtual festival and what’s the difference between that and the regular festival? The main component of our film festival is a 5 day in-person festival, meaning that the first 5 days of the festival (March 1-5, 2023) we’ll be attending films, parties, and events in person. After that, the virtual festival will take place (March 6-11, 2023). The virtual component of the festival will showcase a variety of films from the festival, but not the entire film library. You’ll be able to screen these films in the comfort of your own home on your preferred viewing device (tv, laptop, ipad, etc.) You can purchase passes for the virtual festival only, passes that are good for in-person and virtual, or individual tickets for each virtual show as well.
